On a typical day you can see Trevor Storlie floating down the Columbia River with a boat full of eager fishermen looking to catch massive fish. Trevor is a local Oregon guide for Red’s Guide Service who specializes in salmon, steelhead, sturgeon and walleye. With over 10 years in guiding experience, Trevor is the right person for the job.

Trevor has a great knowledge about fishing and a good sense of humor to keep if fun and entertaining for his guest. Trevor explains his theory “I am very competitive but there is a fine line between being to competitive and keeping it fun for your clients. I think a lot of guys with internet and cell phones take the fun out of fishing. I look at it as just being very lucky to be able to spend the day on the water. Have fun and the fish will come” Trevor is also a disciplined guide, he wants to insure that the guest have the best time possible. Trevor’s motto, “never give up until the boat is on the trailer. The last hole can be the one that saves the day to keep your guys coming back. If they land a big King at the end of the day they forget about all that slow time”.

This year Wright & McGill has teamed up with Trevor to create a new line of salmon/steelhead rods. The “Stormy Skies” rods were created to specialize in the typical fishing in the Pacific Northwest. Trevor was the perfect candidate to help test and develop the rods. You will get a chance to use these rods on a trip with Trevor.

Wright & McGill Co. of Denver, Co announces a new partnership with Rick Clunn professional bass angler from Ava, Missouri. Rick has been fishing professionally for 37 years and was voted ESPN All-Time Greatest Bass Angler in 2004. With his expertise, he’s the right match for Wright & McGill when it comes to selecting and designing bass rods to meet the competitive angler’s demands.

Rick will be fishing with Wright & McGill Signature S-Curve and S-Glass bass rods and Victory reels. He currently has 4 Bassmaster Classic wins and 14 B.A.S.S. National Championship wins making him one of the highest money winners on the tournament trail.

“I am very excited to be part of the W&M team and look forward to fishing the very best rods on the market during 2011 and beyond,” stated Rick.

Chris Russell, Marketing Director for Wright & McGill said, “Rick is the ultimate addition to the W&M team.

Ice fishing is misconceived by many as a cold, boring sport that requires some inebriation to be fun, but this is far from the truth! If done correctly, ice fishing can be comfortable, exciting, and one of the best opportunities of the year to catch a trophy fish! In a typical winter, Colorado has many different ice fishing options across the front range and into the rocky mountains with opportunities for walleye, pike, perch, trout, salmon, and lake trout!

Walleye can be found in Chatfield and Cherry Creek, Antero and 11 Mile reservoirs provide some of the best trophy trout opportunities in the western U.S. and salmon and lake trout of Colorado can be found coexisting in Granby and Blue Mesa reservoirs. These bodies of water are just a few of the opportunities across the state of Colorado, but others include: Rifle Gap, Harvey Gap, Taylor, Aurora, Taryall, Georgetown, Dillon, Green Mountain, Gross, Twin Lakes, Turquois, and many many more!

Ice fishing technology has come a long way over the last decade from heaters to huts and everything in between to keep you dry, warm, and focused on the fish. Sonar and GPS technology has also advanced and truly takes the guesswork out of fishing, allowing any ice angler to identify potential fish-holding structure on a topo map, mark it on their GPS and then use color, HD sonar to identify bottom type, weeds, fish, and how the fish are reacting to their bait. This allows an angler to eliminate dead water quickly and identify the fishes mood so that they can adjust quickly.

Sport Fish Colorado and its guides take full advantage of all the impressive new ice fishing technology to capitalize on the many awesome ice fishing opportunities Colorado has to offer. We don’t like to sit and hope the fish come to us. We actively pursue our target species in hopes of meeting the day’s goal(s) in order to achieve a fishing experience that
provides an adrenaline rush and leaves you wanting more! This takes a little more work and effort, but is usually well worth it! For more information on ice fishing in Colorado check out Icefishcolorado.com. Give Colorado ice fishing a try today for your shot at a true trophy like one of the fish below!

Each rod is custom painted using the new Stormy Skies color treatment making each one slightly different than the next. These beautiful new rods are loaded with extras that will make fishermen wonder how they can be priced at just $99.99 for every model from a 7’9” Hot Shot rod all the way to a 10’6” Magnum Herring model.

By Dan O’Sullivan, Bassmaster.com

The winter offseason is usually a busy time for Bassmaster Elite Series pros. It’s when they organize tackle, finalize contracts and boat wraps and prepare for next season. For Skeet Reese, this offseason included a special fishing trip.

It was all set in motion on May 29, when Philadelphia Phillies ace and eventual National League Cy Young Award winner Roy Halladay threw a perfect game (allowing no baserunners) against the Florida Marlins. It was just the 20th perfect game in Major League Baseball history.

The Phillies wanted to commemorate the occasion by giving Halladay a gift. Because Halladay’s favorite hobby is bass fishing, the Phillies contacted BASS and set up a trip for the pitcher to go fishing with Reese, the 2007 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year and 2009 Bassmaster Classic champion.

Halladay, the Phillies’ ace, shows off a nice Clear Lake largemouth bass. The outing was set for Nov. 28, and Halladay, his wife and their two sons traveled to Clear Lake, Calif., for a day on the water with Reese. They met the previous evening at the Ceago Winery in Nice on the shoreline of Clear Lake.

“Roy was quiet at first, but as the evening wore on, we talked about family, our careers and, of course, bass fishing,” Reese said. “It was a great evening, and by the time dinner and wine tasting was over, I felt like we’d known each other for a while.”

The next morning, the pair launched Reese’s Stratos boat and ventured out onto an unseasonably cold Clear Lake. With air temperature in the low 30s and water temperature below 50 degrees, fishing was slow. Luckily, Reese’s knowledge of the lake helped get things started.

With a few strikes coming on Lucky Craft LV-500s and Staysee 100s, the pair began to warm up. Later, they ventured back to the winery to pick up Halladay’s sons for an afternoon of minnow fishing. The group shared two dozen minnows and some action for the afternoon.

“I was a little intimidated at first to get a chance to meet Skeet,” Halladay said. “But it only took a few minutes to find out what a down-to-earth guy he is, and he made the whole day something I’ll remember. The fishing wasn’t great, but I learned a ton from him, and that made it even better.

Halladay’s sons, Braden and Ryan, joined the pair in the afternoon for a bit of minnow fishing. “Skeet and I stuck with two or three things most of the day,” the two-time Cy Young Award winner said. “I learned that making a lot of lure changes wasn’t going to help me get bites. It’s more important to find the fish and simplify my lure choices.”

Reese was impressed with Halladay’s prowess with a rod and reel.

“He has a bass boat at home, and you can tell he’s serious about it,” Reese said. “He was making roll casts all around the docks and even backhanded roll casts where needed. The day was a lot of fun.”

(This article is being reprinted with permission from The New Jersey Angler • September 2010)

When 2007 Angler of the Year and 2009 Bassmaster Classic Champion Skeet Reese first teamed-up with Wright & McGill, the outcome was just as one would expect. At ICAST last year, the Colorado-based company, with the help and presence of Reese himself, unveiled the Tessera rods that have since been hailed a big success in the bass arena. Well, a year has passed and once again Reese is in contention for the Angler of the Year Award and once again Wright & McGill had a surprise up their sleeve at ICAST this year. With their Skeet Reese signature “Victory” spinning and casting reels, they are once again proving to anglers that high-performance doesn’t have to come at a high price.

Stan Wright and Drew McGill came together to form Wright & McGill nearly 80 years ago. In that time, the company has grown to become one of the most recognized and well-respected names in the industry. They now offer a full line of products under the Eagle Claw and Wright & McGill brands. With new additions like the Tessera and Victory, it’s no surprise their popularity is booming.

Reese developed the Victory spinning reel to meet his championship standards. Its premium components and impressive list of features are usually associated with reels twice the price. The Victory has an all aluminum body that is super-strong and ultra light, and its 9+1 ball bearing system delivers silky-smooth operation. The spool, spare spool and machined power handle have also been crafted from aluminum. An extreme duty, thick power bail and long-lasting bail spring help ensure that the Victory stays in peak working condition for years to come. The Victory also features infinite anti-reverse, an anti-twist roller and a front drag for maximum control. It’s saltwater resistant and comes complete with a protective storage bag.

The Victory spinning reels are the perfect match in weight, balance and color for the signature Tessera spinning rods. They will be available in four sizes: a 2500 that holds 100-yards of 8-pound test, a 3000 (155 yards of 8-pound test), a 3500 (185 yards of 10-pound test) and a 4000 (190 yards of 12-pound test).

Wright & McGill and Reese also worked closely to create the Victory casting reel. Like the Victory spinning models, the quality, affordably priced reel has been fitted with the components and performance that Reese uses to win titles. The sturdy aluminum frame, low-profile bait caster comes with either a 6.2:1 or 7.0:1 gear ratio. Key features include infinite anti-reverse, centrifugal anti-backlash braking, one-touch removable aluminum spool and a quick-access side panel.

An oversized power handle, coupled with precision cut gears and 10 ball bearings pave the way for smooth, reliable winding power. The Victory casting reel is equipped with a super-duty Teflon drag system and audible click star adjuster to make sure the toughest brutes can be tamed with relative ease. It comes with a neoprene reel case and is backed by a one-year warranty.

The Victory casting reel bears Reese’s signature yellow and black and is the perfect complement to the Tessera casting rods. Both the 6.2:1 and 7.0: gear ratio reels hold 120-yards of 12-pound test and are available in left-hand models.

Ask for the Skeet Reese signature Victory and Tessera series at your favorite Northeast tackle retailer or for more information visit wright-mcgill.com.
